After months of intense bargaining, management at Sequoia Hospital has failed to put forward an acceptable proposal for the workers who keep the hospital running. AFSCME Local 829 workers have been on strike since July 18 in our fight for a fair contract. At the Sequoia Hospital Chapter we are Lab Techs, Surgical Techs, Respiratory Therapists, CNAs, Housekeepers, Cooks, Pharmacy Techs, Rehab Aides, Sterile Processing Techs, and more.

We are fighting to roll back past concessions on healthcare that allow the boss to dump the costs on to us. As healthcare workers we deserve employer paid coverage for ourselves and our families.

We are fighting for staffing ratios to prevent the hospital’s understaffing and neglect of patients. When we have 30 patients per CNA patients who can’t get to the bathroom on their own sit in their own feces and urine and eat cold meals long after they are cooked. This must end.

We are fighting for a wage increase that keeps up with the out of control inflation. Many of us commute for hours each day because we can’t afford to live near the hospital.
