Africa Relief and Community Development

Tax deductible
Before you read this please watch the video, it’s the reason I’m posting this.

My father, the handsome man on the right, is one of the founders of Africa Relief and Community Development: a non-profit organization that provides holistic aid to people in Africa regardless of gender, race, or religion. Recently he went on a trip to Africa to monitor some projects ARCD is working on, such as water wells, educational institutions, and health centers.  After sending me this video on WhatsApp, like anyone my age would’ve done, I just ignored it. But after a week of missing my father, I decided to watch the video. Five seconds into watching it, I felt a shiver down my spine, and tears came down my cheeks. I was so happy that my father was able to help these kids–but at the same time disappointed in myself, and the world around me, for all the years that had passed while these kids had no access to clean water. I'm not even talking about basic shelter or clothes, or even medicine. I’m talking water, just plain water.

Now anyone would agree that clean water is a necessity in life, a human right that everyone should be entitled to You don't have to be political to care about this cause, you just have to be human. And as humans we have a moral obligation to lend a hand to those in need.

Many of us are so fortunate to be privileged with much more than just clean water. Putting to use the privilege we live in to improve the living conditions of the less fortunate will not just help those inflicted by this crisis, but it’ll help the world collectively. Addressing this crisis can lead to a better world for us, our kids, and our future generations. Our contribution will instill an empathetic and caring mentality into our world. The wellbeing of the entire world begins and ends with the wellbeings of smaller communities everywhere, which is what ARCD focuses on. Unfortunately, this crisis doesn’t get enough attention, and if we don’t take matters into our own hands, then who will?

I remember once I was with my family, and we were all asked, “what’s your goal in this life?” Most of my family members and I said: “travel, have a nice big healthy family, drive expensive cars, and live in big houses.” But my father was the only one to say “I just want to give back to the community and nothing more, it’s the only thing that gives me a sense of fulfillment.” I was amazed. And to those of you who know my father, he’s always smiling, always happy no matter what he’s going through. So maybe he’s onto something… and watching my father’s video while thinking about his words have truly resonated with me.  It is what helped me summon the courage to start this gofundme for his organization and make this post.

As we all know there are so many organizations out there that have a similar mission and goal. Although it’s always good to have more organizations dedicated to this type of work, this organization is special to me because of two reasons: the founders are Muslim who are providing relief for all African people, not just Muslims. The second reason is that one of the founders is my father, and there’s nobody on this planet that I trust more than him.

Every dollar counts, and all donations will help the cause, but what matters the most, is that you see this and learn something from it. If you feel that you learned something, then share it with your friends and family. Thank you to everyone who took the time to read this and I hope that we can all achieve happiness and a sense of fulfillment in our daily lives. God bless.
