30+ families look for Birth Parents

Don protégé

Hi! My name is Erin, and along with my friend Faith, we have started The Nanchang Project. Faith and I both have children adopted from the Nanchang Social Welfare Institute in Jiangxi, China, and in January 2018 we started searching for our children's birth families.
After beginning our searches, we quickly realized there were many families who were also wanting to begin their own searches but didn't know where to start. Faith and I got together, and came up with a plan to help these families.  The Nanchang Project was born, and we now have 31 children taking part, ranging in ages from 2-20, all from the same orphanage!

We have set up a online campaign via Chinese social media. Each child has their own posts which are circulating.  We have also put a group video together for the Chinese media. But now we are starting to get requests for interviews, which they want in person!  We feel while the momentum is strong, we need to take this chance for our families, and travel to China and meet with these jounalists. We have been advised that interviewing in person will reach many, many people in the Nanchang area and hopefully garner the attention of some of the birth families.   With luck, we will be in China at the end of April !

Your donations will go directly to flights, interpreters, food and the very important 23 & Me DNA kits that we will offer to birth parents who come forward.  We also plan to bring posters about the project to hand out and hang up around the city.

There are more and more stories of abandoned children finding their birth families in China.  We hope our work leads to even one family in our group, (or in other Chinese Adoption groups that we are connected to) find peace and comfort in their life.

OTHER WAYS YOU CAN HELP.
 -  donate flight miles
-   donate a hotel night
 -  donate a Staples gift certificate for printing costs
 -  donate 23&Me DNA kits

Life in China is hard and the social structure is very different than the United States. Children are abandoned for multiple reasons including the One Child Policy and medical needs that the families are unable to provide care for.  This breaks our hearts.

As our children grow, we feel that is important that they have access to their Chinese culture, to their health history, and ultimately we want them to in some way, know their birth families.

I promise updates of pictures from our trip and and any bit of good news that comes our way.

Thank you for your kindness and generosity!
