Our dream to finally have a family

Spende geschützt
Hello everyone!  Our names are Erica and Donald Harris.  We   have been married since April of 2004 and are desperately wanting to be parents.

We have been trying to get pregant since April of 2009.  At first we thought the usual, "Oh, it will take time."  "Just stop thinking about it, and it will happen".  Well after years of trying with no luck, we finally decided to go to the doctor and find out what was wrong.

Our doctor suggested surgery to see if there was anything wrong with me, since Donald was in the clear.  It turns out I had endometriosis.  I was "cleaned out" and ready to go for what seems like  years of Clomid and IUI's (artificial insemination).  After four rounds of IUI with no success, we decided to see a Reproductive Endocrinologist in Baton Rouge.

He immediately wanted to do surgery again.  When the surgery was over and I woke up, he said it was like a bomb went off in my womb.  I had stage 4 endometriosis and Adenomyosis.  To say we were devastated was an understatement! One of my fallopian tubes were completely destroyed and the other extremely swollen and not usable.  He suggested IVF.  The shock and pain were absolutely unbearable.  But, we decided to save up money and try IVF!

When people mention that IVF is emotionally and financially hard, they aren't joking.  All we've ever wanted is to be parents, so we had some money saved up over a while and decided to go for it.  Our first round failed and there were in the Target parking lot, crying hysterically wondering what went wrong, and why us?  When all we want is to be able to take care of a child!

We decided, ok, we will try one more time.  Just one more time.  The shots, appointments (driving 2 hours to the doctor every time), ultrasounds, were all worth it to us.  It took a little over a year for us to try again.  This time we tried a frozen round.  And just like last time, we only had one PERFECT embryo!  We did the trasfer and felt really good our chances.  Fast forward about a week, and bingo!  Pregnant!  To say we were excited is an understatement!  Tears galore!  Hallelujah!!!!

We went in for blood work three days in a row and our HCG numbers kept doubling!  About five days later, the bleeding started, then the clotting, and a rush to the doctor.  They did an ultrasound and saw the baby!  They said I was still pregnant and everything was ok and to take it easy.  Deep down I knew there was something wrong.  Two days later, I kept cramping and spotting and had a nagging feeling to go to the emergency room.

They confirmed my biggest nightmare.  They couldn't see the baby on the ultrasound and my HCG numbers dwindled.  I called the on call doctor to my office and he advised me to stop taking all of my medicine.  I've been doing research and realized that people with my condition have less than a 50% chance of having a live birth (due to adenomyosis).

Donald and I can not handle the emotional heartbreak of losing another baby.  This has been the absolute hardest thing we have ever gone through.  The pain is unreal and hard to describe.

We want to adopt now more than ever.  I know there is a child out there who needs us.  They need us more than anything.  We haven't given up on being parents!

The money you donate will go towards the adoption fees, etc.  I hear it costs quite a bit.  We are not proud people by any means, and know when enough is enough and we need help.  You all have no idea how much we appreciate every cent you donate.  Know your donation is helping us to get what we have dreamed of having for over 7 years.  And to what I have always wanted since I was a little girl, to finally be a mother.

Thank you all so much!

Erica and Donald Harris
