Hello and welcome to our Go Fund Me page! We are 5 doulas serving the GTA, Brampton, Richmond Hill, Newmarket, Lindsay, Peterborough, Kawartha lakes, K/W, Haldimand, and Durham Region.
We have decided to come together and support each other as a group, with the common goal of creating a peaceful and empowering birthing experience for every family we have the opporunity to work with. Some of you may be asking yourself, "what is a doula?". A doula is a non-medical childbirth support person who is there to emotionally, physically and informatively assist the expecting mother and her birth partner during one of the most empowering and special moments of their lives. We do this by offering advice on how to advocate for yourself as well as non-medical pain reduction methods. We all have a great amount of respect for birthing women and their specific birthing preferences and we are all very passionate about what we do. We have started this Go Fund Me campaign because we are hoping to participate in the BABY TIME SHOW in November, 2014. This would be an unbelievable gift to us. We are all within our first year of practice and, as you know, getting a business off the ground is not easy! Not only would we get amazing exposure (around 60,000 people attend the show), but we would be representing our profession and sharing with others what doulas do and the importance of the role they play for families across the globe. After speaking with the shows organizers, we learned that we will also have the opportunity to give a short presentation on the main stage and run a "doula speed dating" event where pregnant women can speak to each of us individually and decide which doula is best suited to them. The BABY TIME SHOW is very well established and is quite expensive to attend as an exhibitor. That is why we are asking for support. Any donations or kind words are greatly appreciated! The money we raise will cover any fees related to the show, as well as promotional items such as postcards, our website design, and, in the case that everyone is feeling extra generous, we would use the remaining funds to cover the doula fees for those who cannot afford one. We would like to thank you in advance for all of the support we are continuing to receive! It means a lot to us and makes our dreams become a reality.
