At only 2 months of age, Addy's fight began. She has been in and out of the hospital, too many times to count; pricked, probed, scanned, tested - finally the results - Beautiful Addy has SCN8A.
Addy is 1 of 4 children to ever have this specific gene mutation. There are only 160 cases of the disease worldwide. There is a huge spectrum of severities from this disease, ranging from learning disabilities to severe mental retardation to even unexplained epileptic death.
The emotional strain the family is under is compounded by the tremendous medical expenses not covered by insurance. Friends can't think of any other way to help except to pray for a miracle and possibly donate money to help alleviate some of their huge medical bills. The family is blessed by having Addy in their lives. They take one day at a time and continue to remain positive and focused on continual steps forward.
