The Juilliard School is the most prestigious music school in the world with the most prestigious trombonist in the world, Joe Alessi. My dream is to become a professional classical orchestra trombonist. And this is exactly what Juilliard does best. It's a once in a lifetime opportunity. So I'm taking a leap of faith and am off to New York!

But with the scholarships dwindling, four years of tuition is not something I'll be able to pay.

In the past, The Juilliard School has supported most of their students, especially those with financial need (usually around 60%), but schools overbook to get the right amount of students.

But this year ALL the trombones accepted and unfortunately I ended up with no financial aid.

This is where you can help. Donate to my tuition and you'll be supporting more than just me, you'll be helping the whole trombone section while making the cost of my musical education more reasonable!

In my first year of middle school I experienced something that was a path-setter, a simple piece of music. In beginning band, we had finally received our first piece of music called "Krazy Klock.", not your standard etude. While most of the students in the class were enthralled by the unexpected wood block solo, I was captivated by the genius of the whole piece. Though simplistic, the concept of the musicality in general hit me all at once, and I was blown back at the immediate realization of how incredible and endless the possibilities were in creating music."¨

Since then, I have dreamed of becoming a professional orchestral trombone musician."¨

My involvement with music started when my father gave me a guitar for my 10th birthday and showed me a couple chords and how to sing in key."¨

My first public performance was my 5th grade talent show. I was the closing solo act playing "Time of Your Life" by Green Day."¨



It was great! So I kept going. I got another guitar and started learning to play by ear. In 6th grade, I was again the closing act playing Good Charlotte's "Anthem"."¨



For the summer, I went to Rockstar Camp, where we formed our own band "Iron Serenity", wrote a song, and recorded a CD, and had a rock concert!"¨

I went to Rockstar camp again and we played Crazy Train. I really wanted to play the drums, so I did. It came in really handy for when later in my high school percussion ensemble and then again when I was the drummer for our Jazz concert."¨



At Valley View Middle School, after learning many instruments, Mr. Mitch Schuster handed me the trombone, and it resonated with me, as did the amazingness of getting to play with a whole band. And so my road to Juilliard began."¨

I was honored me both years in Middle School both years with the Directors Award."¨



John, my guitar and piano tutor gave me a solid foundation for all my musical understanding and performing. With his students we formed bands and performed some awesome rock concerts in Simi."¨



I took advantage of the band room in middle school by borrowing instruments, playing drums, and filling my schedule full of music classes."¨

I've done festivals and solo concerts.

My sister got married in 2010. I played at the church while the guests arrived and was proud to play her entrance and processional as she walked down the aisle. And then I played her and her new husband a song I wrote called "Wedding Day". And she cried.

In the Simi Valley High School Jazz Band I did a gig as drummer:"¨



I was always trying to reach the highest notes and broaden my range. I became famous in my musical circles for always pushing.

Over the years, I've been in percussion ensembles, choirs, bands, orchestras, and the Simi Valley High School Pioneer Marching Band. My senior year I was assistant drum major.



In the Simi Valley High School choir I've done many performances, and solos, including winning best instrumental accompanist (trombone) at a festival. Please watch my piano and vocal solo of "A Drop in the Ocean" here:




In my last year at the Conejo Valley Youth Orchestra with the energetic Bill Benson, at our Winter Concert, I was a member of the Brass Quintet, and was principal trombone of the orchestra. I'm looking forward to our final concert as a high school student.



I have met amazing musicians who are now friends up and down the state of California while performing first in festivals, and youth orchestras, and then honor groups including All Southern California and All California State Orchestras.

I was principal trombone.

At my church, I have been a Middle School Ministry music leader for the last four years and was in the choir lead by Jeremy and Ryan, a Christian Rock duo.

Now I'm ready go to Juilliard. I talked to Joe Alessi about Juilliard scholarships but as of yet they have not come through. We're still hoping though. This is why I need your financial support now. Can I turn down this opportunity?

Juilliard tuition is $37,000 this year. Room and board and travel is about $15,000. Then there's books, and more. This is why I've made this website.

Everybody says without a doubt this is an opportunity that a person does not pass up."¨

Trying to come up with more than $50,000 a year might as well be a million to me. But, for some of you, perhaps some who love the orchestra and the arts, it might not be so insane.
