As you may be aware, I had run as a write in candidate against Congressman Bill Shuster and the Tea party member on the Democratic ticket, Art Halvorson, in the fall '16 election. While I garnered 6,000 votes across the 12 county Pa 9th, I met many "real Democrats" who gave me their support. Troughout the summer and into the fall, I met with the constituents of the Pa 9th through picnics and banquets. I spoke with all citizens, regardless of their political party, who voiced their concerns regarding the direction this country has turned and of a Congress who has an approval rating lower than that of the President.
Our constitution and democracy are under attack. We are threatened in a loss of liberties including free speech by forces both domestic and foriegn. We need a Congress who will place country above party. A Congress who will stand up to a President and protect the values of our founding fathers. A Congress who will fight for "life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness".
We need a Congressman who will fight for "truth, justice and the American way"!
A Congressman who supports decency, morality and will denounce racism and white supremacy.
A Congressman who will practice political sanity.
Therefore, at this time, I wish to announce my candidacy for the 2018 US House of Representatives, Pa. 9th. The Pa 9th is a vast gerrymandered district which covers an area from Monnesson to Chambersburg, Pa.
It is time for a change!
Unfortunately, career politicians have only listened to those who fund their campaigns without concern for 99% of the citizens of this country. I will not subscribe to this train of thought. Our founding fathers did not envision career politicians. They envisioned a Democracy where citizens would represent themselves, not corporations. Citizen leaders would serve their country for a period of time and then return to their previous profession. We need representation of the people, by the people, and for the people. I pledge to provide such.
The top 1% should, and must, pay their fair share of taxes. As the owner of a behavioral health practice, I am an employer and small businessman. The top 1% are not the job creators, we all are. Every one of us are in this boat together and must row equally in order to continue out of this economic storm. I envision a tax system where we all pay equally, individuals and corporations. After the unprecedented failed economic strategies that propelled us into a great Depression, we have begun an economic recovery based on innovation and change. However, the Republican Party's agenda of a lack of mediation and cooperation have led to a lowering of this country’s credit rating, purposeful slowed recovery, and demonstrated a need for new representation for Pennsylvania's 9th District.
Cooperation in Congress is the key to success for the United States. Our founding fathers provided for rule by a system of checks and balances. Out of the three branches of government, the Executive, Legislative and Judicial, the Legislative branch has stalled in progress due to a lack of dialogue and rapport. We must make a change to ensure a system that perpetuates what the creators of this Democracy envisioned.
We must act to ensure that democracy is alive in the 9th Congressional District! Democracy is a bubble up process. Ideas, concerns, and needs from citizens are to be conveyed to Congress to aid development of the country in a fashion which benefits all. I will ensure that all of the citizens of the 9th District have a voice and are heard. Your input is valuable! My role is to represent you in the governmental process. I will relay your ideas, concerns, and wants. We can collectively accomplish more by cooperation and collaboration, not competition.
My platform is simple.
Term Limits:
No legislator should be enabled to spend more time in office than what the term limits for presidents are. A legislator in office for longer than two terms, or eight years, has more influence than the highest office of the land and "bogs down" the democratic process. This is the gridlock that we see in Congress!
Fair Taxes:
All should pay their fair share! Equal shares of financial burden ensures that we have equal say in our government. We must also be held accountable for our spending to ensure economic security.
Clean Environment:
We must preserve our infrastructure by using clean energy through the current delivery system! Development of renewable sources of energy which can be brought to the consumer via the current delivery system will ensure proper economic research and development. The research byproducts will ensure continued technological leadership of our status in the world.
Immigration:
We are a country founded by immigrants. My grandparents were immigrants who fled war torn parts of Europe as children and young adults. We must ensure that the foundation of immigration continues to support our democratic process. We cannot afford to alienate the rest of the world by stopping, figuratively and physically, the immigration process.
Terrorism:
Unfortunately the war on terrorism is an ongoing battle both at home and abroad. We can win this war through the same hard work that propelled us through WWII with a democratic balance of technology and personal freedom.
Healthcare:
We need to continue healthcare reform in order to provide the state of the art care to all of our citizens. The framework is in place and rather than spend taxpayer dollars on the fifteen plus failed attempts at repeal, we should be reaching across the aisle on both sides to ensure the same medical rights that are available to the rest of the world.
Your funds will be used to benefit you through the election of a candidate of the poeple, by the people and for the people.
The funds are needed now! Your support will assist you in ensuring that Democracy will endure for future generations.
