Rural African American Museum

Donation protected
My name is Wilken Jones.  I am the Curator/Owner of the Rural African American Museum & Cultural Tourism Center located in Opelousas, LA.  I am a retired teacher who is still dedicated to educating our community about its history.  I have been running this museum since 1994 with very little funding other than community support and volunteer workers. Up until 2020 the museum has survived mostly through fundraising.  Due to effects of Covid-19, the museum has had to temporarily close to the public and fundraising that it desperately requires to remain in place has largely not been feasible as large gatherings & events are prohibited at this time.  Today I am seeking any & all help to keep this valuable piece of history alive and thriving through the Covid-19 pandemic via donations & contributions.  Funds that are raised will be used to support the museum's basic expenses such as rent, utilities, and insurances until such time as it can reopen to the public and begin fundraising in the community once again.  Any donation is sincerely appreciated. Please help me keep this valuable asset to the community of St. Landry Parish alive and free to our patrons!
