11/06/25 UPDATE
Carson had his 6th surgery yesterday. Drs removed the bracket they placed during his first surgery in an effort to stabilize his left elbow.
Surgery was successful! No complications. It was by far the easiest and quickest surgery thus far. Pain is well controlled. Finally! He's doing really well. Getting better every day. We’re making progress!!!
11/1/2025 UPDATE:
Carson is getting better everyday. He’s able to walk with more stability and less assistance. He did have a fall last week but seems to be ok.
He’s got surgery on Wednesday to remove the brackets in his elbows. Drs are still saying he will have limited use of his arms and possibly his knee. Hes got 2 more surgeries after the surgery on Wednesday. Once all is said and done he will have had a total of 9 surgeries in 7 weeks.
PT and OT have begun coming once a week.
Ophthalmologist confirmed complete vision loss in his right eye. That was hard to hear.
It’s been quite the journey so far. There’s been a lot of heartbreak. But I also thank God, Carson’s alive. It’s literally a miracle he survived. So many people have said God must have big plans for him. I hope so. I pray this is not all in vain. We still have a long road ahead. God willing his eyesight will return and he will have full use of his arms and leg.
*10/27 Update
Carson had an appointment with/trauma team today. Not great news but I'm still believing for complete healing. Dr started out by saying his injuries "are life changing due to the severity of injuries” and he will not have full use of his arms. That was really hard to hear but we won't know to what extent for several months. The right patella broke in half in the fall. So a plate was put in during the first surgery. Dr said the bone has not healed. There is a gap between the two pieces and the tendons have not healed much at all so he will have to have another surgery to fix it. Next Wednesday he is having surgery to remove the plates in his elbows. I'm praying they will do his knee and elbows at one time. This will be surgery # 6 in just three weeks. Then another surgery in 4 weeks to remove pins in his hands and wrists. He has an appointment with Ophthalmologist who is going to do more testing on his eye.
This is still so hard. Carson is struggling mentally with the reality of this new normal and all the “life changing injuries” that will be for the rest of his life. His body is working overtime trying to heal but there are so many injuries.
Please continue to pray for healing. And for both myself and Carson.
On October 2nd, our lives were rocked. Carson, my son, was in a horrific accident that left him with significant, life-threatening injuries. He has a TBI (skull fracture, frontal lobe contusion, and brain bleed) facial fractures, both arms are broken and required multiple reconstructive surgeries, right leg broken which also required reconstructive surgery, broken ribs, and collapsed lung. He was in critical condition upon arrival at the ED then spent three very long weeks in the Trauma ICU, where he underwent five major surgeries. He had 4 blood transfusions that literally saved his life. I am so grateful he is not only alive but was discharged from the hospital yesterday.
Carson's extensive injuries have left him in a state where he requires 24/7 care. For the past three weeks, I have been on leave from my job and Dr’s anticipate that he will need this level of support for at least two to three more months, if not longer. The road ahead is filled with many appointments, physical and occupational therapy 4x a week, and more surgeries including; a minor procedure this Monday and a more extensive surgery in three weeks.
The financial strain is becoming overwhelming. I need to hire a caretaker to assist me, as I cannot do this alone, and the cost of hiring one is a lot. Hiring a caretaker will also allow me to return to work that much sooner. The insurance provided some medical equipment but, I have had to buy additional adaptive equipment to assist Carson. All this on top of monthly living expenses.
I am humbly asking for your help to get us through this really difficult time. All funds raised will go directly toward:
*Hiring a professional caretaker to assist with Carson's 24/7 needs.
*Covering medical bills, prescriptions,
co insurance, $101 per Dr. visit which as of right now is 7 from Monday to 11/21.
*Paying for essential living expenses and bills while I am on leave.
We have a long and uncertain road ahead. Any contribution, no matter the size, will make a profound difference.
Thank you so much.
