Meet Leo, Katy and their beautiful family. I first met them in San Diego, CA, where we served together in the Navy. After finishing their time in the Navy, they started growing their family. They lived in LA for a short period, before moving to Houston in hopes of being able to provide a better life for their family.
They were doing pretty good up until recently. Their landlord decided to sell the condo they lived in and only gave them one week to find a new place. They moved into a hotel with their two dogs and sent their children to California to stay with family, while they searched for a new place. They are also seeking legal guidance, due to the short notice for moving out. However, after two weeks of paying out of pocket for a hotel, they have run out of funds.
I was able to help them out with a couple of nights at the hotel, but that is only a temporary fix. They have been set up with a veteran housing agency to get them into a home they can afford, but it will take 2-3 weeks to process them. I started this GoFundMe to help keep them from being homeless for the next few weeks.
$1,500 will help pay for their living expenses over the next 2-3 weeks, to include hotel costs, food and public transportation. They both work but do not make enough income to sustain the cost of staying in a hotel. They currently do not have a vehicle because it was severely damaged in Hurricane Harvey, so they are relying on public transporation to get to and from work.
These are good people and they really need a break right now, especially because it is getting so close to the holidays. Please help them survive the next few weeks, so they can focus on getting into a stable home and eventually reunite with their children. This would help give them some peace of mind for a few weeks at least.
