Abilities Siem Reap - Support Fund
Donation protected
Genevieve’s Fair Trade Village supports the disabled community of Siem Reap through empowerment, training, employment, housing, medical and social support. Learn more about GFTV and read some of the artisan's stories on our website.
It is rare for GFTV to ask for help as our sustainability model has served us well over the past 4 years. However, in September this year, a tragic event impacted one of our families that led to unforeseen expenses and we needed to borrow funds from our running costs. This was our only option and as high season is yet to kick in we simply haven’t had the opportunity to recoup these funds. Simply put, there is an immediate need to raise funds to cover overheads and back to school needs for the children and fundraising is a necessity to enable us to operate through the high season and look forward to another successful year.
Short term funds required for:
- Full Belly Farm: uniforms and books for the kids to start the new school year in November and travel costs for children with disabilities being integrated into the public school system.
- GFTV shop: resupply of inventory for production at GFTV, funds for improved local marketing - design and production costs, purchasing equipment to establish a bookbinding operation.
Long term funds required for:
- Full Belly Farm: priority housing for families transitioning to independent living
Fundraising benefits:
- supports artisans with disabilities and their families
- creates an entity in the community that promotes the UN Sustainable Development Goals for persons with disabilities - the group the UN predicts is the most likely to be left behind particularly in developing countries
- provides stable housing for previously homeless families impacted by disability
