Teacher needs to save her eyesight
Spende geschützt
I am raising money for surgery that my mom needs to maintain the vision in her right eye, so that she may continue to live the life she loves, watching her grandchildren grow and being a teacher of children with special needs.

In 2008, my mom was diagnosed with a rare disease in her right eye made up of Iridocorneal Endothelial Syndrome, Iris Atrophy with Corneal Edema, and Glaucoma (Chandler's Syndrome). To this date she has had eight surgeries on her eye. She had a shunt implanted, and when it malfunctioned she needed another surgery to have it replaced; she has had two cornea transplants; and the list goes on. Recently we were told that in addition to the existing issues, she now has Cystic Macular Edema, a condition that threatens to put a hole in the retina. It has become necessary for mom to have another surgery with a two-fold purpose; to further lower the intraocular pressure (Glaucoma) and to remove the cyst. Both are conditions that if not remedied, will cause complete vision loss in the eye. There is no way of knowing how long her vision will hold out, so as soon as we have enough money for the surgery, we will get it scheduled!
The money I hope to raise is for three things. The first is to pay for the surgery (out of pocket maximum per insurance), the second is to compensate for her loss of pay due to the required four week recovery period, and the third is to help pay the taxes she owes on the penalties charged for early withdrawal of her teacher retirement in order to pay for previous surgeries.
My 2-month old daughter and I, along with my sister and her 3-year old son, all live with my mom. I stay home with the kids and work a couple nights a week, my sister goes to school and works a couple nights a week, and mom is a special education teacher and watches the kids when we work at night. Things are tight but we make it work because we all work together as a team and help each other in any way we can. However, big expenses like this really take a toll because we just don't have any "wiggle room" in our budget.

My sister, the kids, and I would be so very thankful if you could help us reach our goal. Mom lost a job once before due to her eye issues and we would hate for her to have to go through that again. If she maintains the sight she has, she is able to remain a fully independently functioning person. If she loses the sight in that eye, it decreases her visual field such that she cannot perform some of her every day duties like managing a classroom or driving a car. She has always said that her most precious moments are watching her grandchildren discover the world and watching the smile spread across her students' faces when they make sense of something for the first time.
Your donation would mean the world to us because when we need our mom, she is there; and we want her to know that when she is in need, she is not alone. She has spent our whole lives helping us and supporting us while we reach our goals, and we want to do the same for her.
