AAPI Free Self-Defense Classes

Seniors Fight Back launched in May 2021 and has provided FREE self-defense training to 1700+ AAPI seniors since May 2021 through Los Angeles County and Orange County due to the surge in attacks targeting the seniors in the community. After our first class, we decided to form a 501(c)3 nonprofit in December 2021 and are 100% volunteer-based organization.

 

How We Started

 

In 2020, I, Hong Lee, (@mama_dolee) was a victim of a viral Hate Incident in Los Angeles. Box for Change invited me to a self-defense class. A friend saw the flyer and connected me to another friend. We started to talk about how we can help the AAPI community especially with the surge in attacks that were targeting the seniors. Seniors Fight Back was formed along with a group of 10 strangers to teach situational awareness, body language, voice and basic physical techniques to get away from the attacker.

 

How YOU Can Help

 

Our core team has been funding the classes out-of-pocket and need your help to continue hosting these monthly classes for the community. Expenses include venue, liability insurance, canopies (if outdoors), sound system, marketing, etc. EVERY PENNY donated will go directly towards hosting monthly classes for the community.
