India COVID-19 Response Appeal

India is reeling under the surge of a horrific second wave of COVID-19. The healthcare system is struggling with shortages of oxygen, ventilators and ICU beds. In the second most populous country in the world, the numbers of active cases and deaths are overwhelming.

I am a 15-year-old Canadian of Indian heritage and it disturbs me to see the devastating impact of this tragedy. I see the painful visuals of familiar, once-vibrant places on TV and social media. At home, my anxious parents talk of little else and stay glued to their phones for news of family and friends in India.

We live in a deeply interconnected world and the pandemic is not over until everyone, everywhere is safe. Canada and India share strong ties and values as longstanding democracies and allies. The Canadian government has pledged their assistance to this cause and encouraged their citizens to do the same.
