Dear Friends and Family:
I have been watching tonight more of the coverage of the horrible destruction and devastation caused by hurricane Maria on the island of Puerto Rico. I realize that I cannot any longer sit passively and watch; I must get more involved and do everything that I can and that I know how to do-- to help the wonderful people of this island. This is very personal for me; as many of you know, I had the good fortune to grow up in Puerto Rico. My parents moved with me when I was a newborn-- to Puerto Rico and stayed for the next 12 years. My brother and sister were both born there. Our family grew to love the island and the Puerto Rican people.
It is clear to me now that the people of Puerto Rico need my and our help and our government is far too slow to respond. I am choosing to not comment for now on the politics of the latter. Let’s focus our energy toward a more productive cause.
Please consider helping the people of Puerto Rico by making a monetary contribution to the GoFundMe site that I have set up. All proceeds minus the small percentage that GoFundMe charges all subscribers (I believe it is a one time charge of 3% of the amount that is raised) will go to the people of Puerto Rico. The funds will be distributed personally by me and by a very close childhood friend of mine whom I would trust with my life. If I am able, I will travel to Puerto Rico to make these distributions. The greatest need in the short term is for food, water and medical supplies. As time wears one, shelter will also become more critical.
When I first began thinking about setting up this site, I considered the amount of $10,000 as a lofty goal. I now intend to raise $100,000 to help our fellow 3.5 million Americans. Please help. Please forward this appeal to anyone that you think will be inspired to contribute to our GoFundMe site.
