A New Start for BreeAnne Post Below the Knee Amputation

The morning of March 25th was a really scary one for our family. My mom was rushed into emergency surgery after a visit to the ER. They performed Catheter-Directed Thrombolysis as she had blood clots in her arteries and a vascular occlusion in her foot. The doctor told us that he was saving her life in that moment. Over the next two days they went back in and repeated that surgery. Ultimately she developed Critical Limb Ischemia. She was told that her foot was dying and we watched it die over the week. My mom underwent a below the knee amputation on 4/1, one week after she went into the ER. This has been a lot to process for her and for our family.

My mom has already been going through a divorce for the past year and was left to take care and pay for a house that was too much space for just one person to begin with. Now, we are trying to come together as a family to get the house cleaned out and fixed up to sell. This would include renting a dumpster and hiring people to help us get stuff out of the house. While also trying to fix it up. She will eventually need to get prosthetics as well which will not be cheap even with the help of insurance.

My mom really needs to be in a first floor handicap accessible apartment ASAP. Navigating a house with three flights of stairs right now is hard for her. My mom had just gotten a new job and was trying to get back on her feet. Therefore, this is proving hard to be able to get her into somewhere to live by herself with the crazy rental prices for a one-bedroom apartment.

If you know my mom you know that she is a sweet and genuine person who has been through a lot. She would help anyone and has possibly even helped you in a hard time. Lessening the burden financially is something that my family and I wish that we could do on our own but we are seeking help from our community and any caring individuals who come across this post. If you can’t help financially then even sharing or reaching out to her with words of encouragement or cooking for her would mean so much to us.
