Giving Bombarral shelter dogs a healthy future
Donation protected
Amigo Fiel is a shelter for dogs in Bombarral, Portugal. We care for and rehome abandoned animals in Bombarrals official shelter, but must mostly survive on donations from the public.
We have had a difficult 2022 with over 100 dogs rescued, many in poor health and needing emergency health care. We have dealt with coronavirus and parvo virus cases and an outbreak of giardia.
Our veterinary expenses are now higher than ever and we need an urgent appeal for donations. Every amount you give will help keep our dogs healthy.
Ultimate goal: €5,000 to get the dogs healthy and the shelter out of debts.
Intermediate Goal #1: €300 for Audrey's vet bill
This sweet old lady was found tied up to the rubbish bin outside our shelter in bad shape. We took her immediately to the vet and she had emergency surgery for pyometra. Her fur was in bad condition with parasites. After tests we also discovered she had a blood parasite from ticks that needed a 28 day treatment plan. She has fully recovered and is now in good health. We need to pay her vet expenses which have reached a (current) total of €300.

Intermediate Goal #2: The story of Brownie
Brownie was abandoned in the field next to our shelter. He was malnourished and we soon discovered he had coronavirus and giardia. He was desperate to be touched and loved, a sweet guy and we all fell in love with him. After 4 weeks it was clear he was struggling to recover and one of our volunteers took him into foster.
After several diagnostic tests, scans and surgery biopsy, we had the news that this beautiful young dog had kidney failure. With continuous medication and a specific renal diet, Brownie can live a good life, although it will be shorter than normal.
Hospital diagnosis tests and surgery costs so far: €3000
On-going monthly costs:
Medication 135€
Renal diet food €60

Intermediate Goal #3: The Bucket Pups
These day old babies were abandoned in a bucket outside the local health centre! We took them to our vet for emergency care and luckily found a mother dog to help feed them. After a few weeks, this dog didn't want to be with the babies so they arrived at our shelter for care.
We soon realised they were struggling and after another emergency visit to the vet, they tested positive for coronavirus. They are receiving treatments and extra supplements to help their development.
Total costs so far:
€350
