A Month’s Survival

Hi everyone, my name is John. For the last two months I’ve been in the streets of New York City protesting against police brutality. Alongside Warriors in the Garden, I have been able to use my voice to speak out against the injustices that are occurring. On June 6th, I was captured on camera protesting for black lives matter. My previous account manager, who was an ex-cop, openly opposed my actions and targeted me for exercising my first amendment right. Three weeks later, while at occupy city hall, I experienced the very thing that I was fighting against; and also lost my personal belongings. Amongst those belongings were: my social security card, various licenses, and my ID badge for work. My account manager used this as an opportunity to terminate my employment. Since then I’ve been struggling to make ends meet, but have continuously stayed on the front lines.
