On Oct 27, one of our beloved local families (who wish to remain anonymous) gave birth to a beautiful
little girl. She was perfect in every way. Dark curls, rosebud lips, soft velvet skin. Unfortunately, during
her birth, there was an umbilical cord accident. The specific accident is called a Cord Prolapse. It is very
dangerous and often catastrophic. Sweet Baby Girl’s mother was rushed to the OR for an emergency
cesarean section. Mama was given a general anesthetic, so she was completely asleep during the
cesarean. There was no time for an epidural or for her to be awake during the surgical delivery. Baby
Girl was born lifeless. The incredible NICU team began resuscitation, which took quite some time.
Finally, the doctors were able to restore Baby Girl’s heartbeat, but by that time, she had been too long
without oxygen, and there was no longer any brain activity. Baby Girl was placed on life
support so her mother could wake from the general anesthesia and meet her. On Oct 29, her devastated parents
said goodbye, and Baby Girl passed peacefully. She was greatly loved and will be missed all the
remaining days of our lives. Nothing will fill the Baby Girl-sized hole in our hearts.
This tragedy is every family’s nightmare.
It is our hope that, as a community, we can come together and
gather enough funds to cover the out-of-pocket costs that this family’s health insurance will not cover.
We can think of no better way to show tangible evidence of love and compassion in this
terrible time of grief than to cover the costs of the upcoming hospital bill.
Deep Waters Bereavement is a non-profit committed to coming alongside families experiencing pregnancy and infant loss here in the Inland Northwest. We are facilitating this fundraiser to try and help this family as much as possible during this inexplicable time of grief and mourning. Please help us as we surround this family with resources and support.
We thank you from the bottom of our hearts.
