A little help for Sammy, our favorite cashier

On Saturday night, December 12, there was an armed robbery at the Columbia Food Mart on Beacon and Columbia in East Dallas. Four men brutally attacked and robbed the evening cashier- pistol-whipping him, and even shooting to kill (luckily they missed). Sammy was taken to the hospital and had to get stitches in his face.
Sammy, the longterm and well-beloved cashier at Columbia Food Mart is a well-known fixture in our community; he's never missed a day of work, he immigrated to the US with his wife and beautiful four children- and he is such a delight to see everytime one frequents his store. Instead of just meangingless transactions at a corner store, Sammy asks his customers how their kids are doing, he remembers their names, he is generous to a fault- some times offering some of his friends and customers money out of his own pocket! I could go to other places, but I always go to Columbia Food Mart to say hey to Sammy and Solomon. They just have that neighborhood feeling, that's so integral to a quality communal experience.
After word got out on the neighborhood groups about what happened at Columbia Food Mart, immediately countless people went to check on his whereabouts. So many have been touched by his great spirit, and his joyful cheer- noone wanted to believe that anyone could ever do such a thing to our friend. I paid him a visit the night after the attack, and he assured me that he was fine- and that everything was okay. I cried like a baby, feeling protective over my friends that put their life on the line every day, in such a variety of ways.
It's hard to put into words how exactly violent assaults can really change a person.. some times the scars on the surface fade, but that feeling of experiencing trauma can linger and really hurt. Let's lift Sammy's spirit, and show him how we care, and reassure him that as a community, we've got his back! He is a modest man, and did not ask for this GoFundMe, but I hope that once he receives whatever donations we can accrue, that it helps him have a little peace of mind and a nice holiday with his family.
