A Home for Beth, David, and Ava
Beschermde donatie
This Go Fund Me request is made for the family of David and Beth Fixmer and their daughter, Ava. Beth has ALS. She began having symptoms in March, 2014, when her daughter Ava was one but was not diagnosed with the disease until May 2015. She has not been able to work since then. At the time of her diagnosis, the doctors told her she would not live to see Ava enter kindergarten. Thanks to the grace of God and to Beth’s spirit, the disease has progressed slower than the doctors expected. David, a journalist, lost his job shortly before Covid hit and has not been able to find work for over a year. David serves as Beth’s caregiver so no one comes in possibly bringing germs. Beth’s condition, as you can imagine, is quite compromised.
After renting the same handicapped-accessible ranch home for over five years, the homeowners have decided they want to sell the house and have given David and Beth just one month to find somewhere else to live. This has proven to be quite a challenge.
Beth has faced so many obstacles throughout this battle with ALS, but she does not quit. Although she has lost physical strength, her emotional strength is strong. She is motivated by her love for Ava (who is a delightful young lady and who accepts her mother’s condition as if this were normal) and David. Beth does not want to miss any part of Ava’s childhood nor does she want Ava to miss being a child.
Beth was my student at Hinckley-Big Rock. One of the hardest things for me to watch is the struggles that some of my students have faced. I am never sure what I can do to help. However, in this case, I think setting up this fund to help Beth and David is a way in which I can help. They need to find a home and the expense for this could be great. Any donations that will help them find some place to call home and to help with the move from their current home will be greatly appreciated!
Thank you!
