A Father's Life's Work Lost

Donation protected
First I would like to say hello and thank you to those of you that are taking the time to read this.

This is a very hard thing for me to do. My father always taught me not to ask for, or look for, any handouts but now my father is in need of help, and being the strong provider that he is, will not ask for it. So that's why I'm here. I'm asking for help, from any and everyone that can help us.

So let me begin by telling you a little bit about my father.  He literally broke his back to keep food on the table and a roof over our heads, and he did it with a smile. As a mechanic he used to work for a company (who for legal purposes we will omit the name) that he loved and they loved him, but one day while performing his daily tasks he slipped two disks in his back. After several surgeries to remove not one, but both disks from his back and years of rehabilitation, my father was put on disability. This killed his spirit, as a working man who earned everything he ever owned, feeling like you can't provide and knowing that your disability would only be so much, was a hard thing for him to accept.

Well he didn't accept it. He decided that he would muster up the strength to do small jobs, that were not as labor intensive, in order to supplement the lack of income coming in, so that he could still provide for his wife and two children. He hurt bad and some days he couldn't even get out of bed due to his back pain, but he always pushed through and always kept a positive attitude. This all started 30 years ago and he's  been going ever since.

So now out of work and dealing with a bad back, my father decided to take a small piece of that already pressed income and buy one set of essential mechanics tools. With these tools he would go out and do odd jobs around the neighborhood for friends, family and even strangers who were just stranded because of car issues. He's always been fair and never has he ever had a single complaint about his work or his character. So now with a small income coming in, my father would save quarters, pennies and any loose change he could, just to buy another tool. A wrench here or there, a ratchet set in order to keep up with the ever changing world of mechanics and car manufacturing or just a tool he felt was necessary to do his work.

One tool at a time.  My father raised my brother and me through one tool at a time. He worked extremely hard to keep his family together through one tool at a time. He worked and broke his back for one tool at a time. Each tool he bought was earned through literal blood, sweat and tears. He never asked anyone for anything. He is a decan in the church and whenever the church needs anything, he is there. He and my mother feed the homeless on Thursdays and they help the elderly in any way they can throughout the community.

This is my father.

A humble man who comes from humble beginnings, and always earned everything he ever owned.

This past week, while we all worried about the hurricane and whether or not our homes or families would survive, someone stole all of my fathers tools from their home.

30 years of back breaking accumulation of mechanics tools, all gone in the blink of an eye. The police where notified but due to all the rain they were not able to get any evidence to provide any leads.  My father never asked for anything, always gives his everything and someone came and took his life's work and his well being.

My father is a mechanic.  That's who he is. It's the man that made his father proud, and the man that provided for me and my mother and brother.  Without tools, he can not be the man he was. His tools were his life.

He is a strong man at heart and would never ask for help, but after 30 years of accumulating tools the price of replacement is too high for a man of humble means.  So my father aches in silence and being the strong man he is, he pretends that everything is ok, but it's hard to hide that kind of hurt.

So here I am asking for help on his behalf. He has no idea that I'm doing this and I intend to post video of him receiving his gift. I am asking for only a small amount of money in order to help my father start over, one tool at a time.

I would like to get him enough money to purchase the essential items that he needs in order to start over again. Though we may never replace every tool that he owned, I hope that I can bring him some piece of himself back, because to see the strongest person you'll ever know in such a broken state is terrible and I wouldn't wish this feeling on anyone.

Again I thank you all and even if you can't give money, please just keep us in your thoughts and prayers.
