A Tiwahe Ozuye (Family Journey) to the United Nations

Each year, our family journeys to the United Nations' Permanent Forum on Indigenous Issues to humbly contribute in small, and profound ways to the collective voice of indigenous peoples as delegates of the American Indian Movement-West. This year's session is timely as it is themed, "Indigenous Peoples' Collective Rights to Lands, Territories, and Resources", April 16-27, 2018.
Now more than ever, water, land, and the sacred elements of Mother Earth continue to be placed into jeapordy across the world's vast landscapes, mountainous regions, oceans, lakes, and river ways. In response, our family has committed to hosting the Mni Ki Wakan (Water is Sacred): World Indigenous Peoples' Decade of Water Summit, taking a collective and generative approach towards water and transformation.
As part of our tiwahe (family) commitment to indigenous peoples and youth, we continue to host the Mni Ki Wakan (Water is Sacred): World Indigenous Peoples' Decade of Water Summit (2017-2027) alongside international indigenous planners; provide ongoing indigenous peoples' human rights trainings such as Nancy Bordeaux's tiwahe-led, Tawacin Tanka's Beyond Historical Trauma: A Personalized Look at Indigenous Peoples' Human Rights at the Community Level, as well as, Understanding Collective Transformation and the Path Forward (a 2-day training hosted by Tawacin Tanka's Beyond Historical Trauma series).
Tiana LaPointe, an indigenous documentary-filmaker has produced various works, and is developing a feature-length documentary revolving around the work of her Ina: mother. She has continued to work with indigenous and diverse youth for over a decade on a myriad of projects ranging from indigenous peoples rights, cultural resurgence, and was a Knight Fellow to the Sundance Film Festival, and a recipient of the Jerome Foundation Travel and Study Grant. Thorne and Wakinyan LaPointe, brothers, will provide statements on indigenous issues and build collective capacity at the UN on initiatives they are developing on around water, and community innovation.
We humbly request your support and generosity in our collective efforts to engage in meaningful ways with the world indigenous community in working together towards a brighter future for all life, and Mother Earth.
Your heartfelt contribution will help our tiwahe to host a special side-event at the United Nations to share about our collective initiatives by providing spaces for other international indigenous delegates from various regions of the world to voice their concerns and initiatives for a more transformative future. Our tiwahe intends to stay for the full duration of the Permanent Forum on Indigenous Issues, April 16-27, 2018, this includes: lodging, travel, food, as well as materials and supplies for the aforementioned initiatives.
