Mackenzie’s Run for a Hope for Emma Jane

It’s that time again!!! Mackenzie will be running another 5K March 9, 2019. This year she decided she will be running for a Hope for Emma Jane. Emma Jane is almost one she was diagnosed with Fanconi anemia. Many people ask what that is. Its a condition that affects many parts of the body. People with this condition may have bone marrow failure, physical abnormalities, organ defects, and an increased risk of certain cancers.
Emma was born with no thumbs. The plan right now for Emma is to monitor her blood levels 4 times a year. she will eventually need a bone marrow biopsy but they do not want to do that until she's a bit older since she will need to be put under anesthesia to have it done. They said by the time she is 2 or 3 they will do this.The doctors also told them that they will be looking for a bone marrow match on the registry immediately just to get a sense of what's out there for Emma. There’s still a lot of research that needs to be done and we are hoping with the money that is raised we can help with that to make sure that Emma has a happy and healthy life like every child deserves.
