Wasted Ink Zine Distro needs your help.
Wasted Ink Zine Distro launched December, 2015. WIZD's collection includes zines from handmade and independently produced materials. These small press publications can be read on-site in their very extensive, ever-growing reading rack of over 700 zine titles. WIZD also houses over 250 zine titles for sale from local creators and creators from different states and countries. WIZD provides people with alternative forms of media with publications about a myriad of different topics ranging from, educational and women’s studies, personal and political activism, music and punk history, photography, art and more. WIZD is the only zine shop in Phoenix.
In just seven short months, WIZD has grown from a couple dozen zines to a distro and reading rack housing a community of DIY publishers from across the globe. We've celebrated zine releases, shared new music and sold nearly 1,000 DIY publications. We've grown together, in wise small steps. But now, like a baby bird being nudged from the nest, WIZD faces an unexpected leap forward.
On Friday, August 26th, we were informed that the new property owner where Wasted Ink Zine Distro is located plans to demolish the building. They have given us two months to vacate the premises.
While we are really surprised by the news of our lease being terminated, we are considering this a chance to upgrade and make our shop even better.
We are actively searching for a new location for WIZD 2.0. We value the network of supportive creators WIZD has brought together and we know the location is not what makes WIZD special to us, but rather, the amazing community of diy zinesters and creators who have been inspired by one another or shared a special moment within those WIZD walls.
If you have ever visited WIZD, you might know how important it truly is. If you haven’t visited, we want to make sure you can experience it in the future.
We humbly ask for your help during this transition.
We need help finding a location for WIZD 2.0 and we need help during our transition. From the start, WIZD has been about community. Please help us take that community into the future.
How you can help:
We need a new space, roughly 300-500 sq ft. to house all of our very special zines.
We need money to help put a deposit down.
We need money to replace our promotional materials; such as, business cards and flyers with our old address on it.
We need plastic tubs with lids to store the zines during the transition.
We need a small moving van or truck to transport items to our new spot.
We need money to file necessary paperwork for the move.
