WE Got This: Campaign

WE Got This is a campaign that fights youth gun violence and advocating for youth mental health care in Rochester. We noticed that Rochester has a very gut wrenching rate of youth gun violence. It’s time to stop that. No more of our youth getting killed. Rochester is losing future mayors, lawyers, teachers,etc to mental illness and gun violence which we need to deal with.We plan to get our youth out of the streets by having events and programs for our youth to participate in. We are having Photography,poetry,drawing,dancing,cooking recording studio and many more programs. We wanted to make sure all of these programs were free of charge because of our high numbers of poverty. While having the events, we want to kill two birds with one stone,so we will encourage our youth with inspirational speakers and optional counselors (with parents consent). We will reach our youth through social media, canvassing neighborhoods, as well as going to local schools and churches to spread  the news of what we do.We Got This is a campaign started by Isaiah Santiago, a 16 year old activist that has heard the outcry of our youth in Rochester for a change. Isaiah has seen and had relationships with some of our youth killed by gun violence. He is the oldest of 5 siblings that he doesn’t want to be killed by gun violence. Isaiah believes that poverty is connected to a lot of things like crime rates, gun violence, and drop outs. He says “Once we deal with poverty the rest will follow”.
