We Love Twerton
My name is Diana Ahmed, I have a BA Fine Arts degree , a local artist in Twerton
I have lived in the Twerton area for 15 yrs (short break of 3 yrs in Dorset).
It came to my attention how rundown Twerton had become in Lockdown.
It stood out more as other high streets were still thriving in Bath city .
I was avoiding the high street , I challenged myself , if you are avoiding the area why ?
it’s rundown , no art or nature !!
it’s dark and boarded up !! It needs Help
I then embarked on the regeneration. through an art project called We Love Twerton high street.
I reached out to local organisations/ charities, schools, youth groups, Bath city FC, RNID, Rose cottage hub and St Michael’s church .
I have now collaborated with these organisations and it has had a positive outcome .
Donation of bunting by local residents .
Art has now been created by local primary schools pupils inspired by the local history of Twerton . The Mill ( industrial revolution )
Innox Park Flower show .
I have been granted permission to display the art by Bath City FC , to display the art work in their grounds.
The rest of the art work will go on display in the High Street on the boarded up shop fronts.
Outcome:
I personally wish to a achieve societal ART in public spaces for the communities that has an intricate historical connection to the community that will in turn bring positive mental health wellbeing to all residents that reside in the area of site visual arts.
Also to provide an art studio for all the community .where they can gain access to
workshops and personal art projects
This would create a creative hub within the community serving as a positive place , as when there is a cross connection of all generations within a community the outcomes are positive and encourage the happiness an wellbeing of those that engage within the arts spreads out into the wider community as a whole.
The power of art can break through all barriers of political & restraint.
So, please help me achieve my goal of helping the community and the younger generation to have a high street that they can be proud of.
