Thumbsup4Cohen - Help Us Get Justice for Cohen

On the 4th June 2019, my daughters 17 yr old boyfriend sadly ended his life.  Her heart is broken as are his family & friends.  Cohen was the youngest of three siblings and his family are completely shattered.  Cohen was an incredible, amazing person who achieved so much in his short life.  He was a talented musician, an aspiring pilot, a much loved boyfriend, an adored friend and of course a cherished and much loved member of his family and his tragic passing has left holes in everyone’s hearts.  He was a good kid, a smart kid, a well behaved kid, a very polite young man who just tragically could not see past his mental health battle.  He wasn't on drugs, he wasn't underage drinking, he wasn't breaking the law, he was just a good kid from a good family who sadly faded into the background at his school.  I have witnessed first hand the immense grief that Cohen's family are experiencing, and decided to set up this page to help lessen some of the burden.

Now Cohen’s parents have had to enlist legal representation to act on their behalf to request the Coroner to hold an Inquest into Cohen’s death.  Sadly there were things leading up to his death that could have been done to help Cohen’s parents be made aware of the mental anguish Cohen was experiencing and maybe could of helped prevent his death. It seems that he was let down by a system and teachers that should have been supporting him, that should of been caring for him and should have made sure he mattered. Because he did matter, he mattered to his family, he mattered to his girlfriend, he mattered to his friends, he mattered to everyone.

This is why it is so vitally important Cohen's family have adequate legal representation in petitioning the coroner to make sure an inquest is held.  For changes to happen it is in the public's best interest that an inquest be held.  They are not just doing this for Cohen, they are doing it for EVERY child in school right now and in the future. How can a child in a class of 8 kids be so tremendously let down?  How could not one of his teachers pick up the phone and ring Cohen's parents?  Why was a long weekend more important than Cohen?  Why did his school not care about him?  Why did the school fail in their Duty of Care?

Questions that will haunt Cohen's family forever.

Cohen's family want to focus on implementing changes to make sure no other family has to endure the pain of losing a child to a mental health battle and to make sure communities and schools are supportive of young people suffering from mental health illnesses.   To reduce the stigma of depression and anxiety, to support young people and to make sure that schools are a safe place for kids to be, that parents can feel comfortable and positive that their children are adequately being supported and cared for.  Ultimately they want schools to be made accountable and transparent with their support of young people who are suffering with mental health issues.

THIS IS A TRAGEDY THAT COULD HAVE BEEN PREVENTED AND SHOULD NEVER HAPPEN AGAIN.

Any amount would be gratefully appreciated.

I would also be grateful if you could share this campaign with your friends and family.

Thank you.
