The main objective of The Benefits of Fashion 2014 is to raise funds and awareness for the NGO WORK + SHELTER in response to the tragic death of Amanat, the woman who was subject to the recent Delhi gang-rape and who lost her life as a result of the violent assault. We are working in close coordination with WORK + SHELTER, which offers women a secure environment to work and build critical life skills through fair wage jobs. WORK + SHELTER will receive all of the proceeds from the project and utilize them by helping empower women in New Delhi. Investment will be made in training and equipment for these women and in the expansion of the program to other cities in India.
The project will culminate in a fashion show to be held at the Dutch Ambassador's residence on February 22, 2014. The collection that will be showcased at this show is being designed by students of American Embassy School. The collection will be auctioned to guests present at the event. All funds generated through this auction will also be donated to WORK + SHELTER. The show will be attended by 400 top leaders, young change-makers, and members of the Diplomatic and Expatriate Community in New Delhi.
This project was setup to achieve a task to not only advocate for change, but also to play an active role in creating it. The financial assistance such an event could generate for WORK + SHELTER and women in need would be immediate and enduring. As you would understand, the funds required to run such a project are extensive; however, we would greatly appreciate any help that you would be willing to offer. Help make a difference in the lives of many women! (WORK + SHELTER NGO: http://www.workshelter.
