TheALEXProject 2017-18

Donation protected
#TheALEXProject just completed its first year and it was hugely successful! We were able to match an adult volunteer with each classroom at Donahoe Elementary in eastern Henrico County. Lasting relationships were made,  some schoolwork was improved and the program is on its way to growing even stronger. Henrico County actually would like #TheALEXProject to spread to more schools ASAP!

ALEX
is an acronym that stands for Actively Loving and Encouraging Xcellence. Each ALEX volunteer is paired with a teacher/classroom and spends at least 1-hour per week in that classroom. The ALEX volunteer builds relationships and encourages each student to be all he/she can be, to work hard, to be kind. The results have been incredible!

This program is named after Alex Moore, a young man who passed away June 7, 2015. Alex was a 2009 Hanover High School and a 2013 JMU graduate. He initially pursued a career in business, but later decided to go into a life of service. Alex tragically lost his life in a car accident just days before his Hanover County Sheriff’s Deputy Graduation. He was a man who enjoyed serving others and was looking forward to serving and protecting the citizens of Hanover County. He did all these things with a zest for life and a desire to make a lasting, positive impact. This program is aptly named for Alex Moore as he embodied all the characteristics associated with love, service and kindness.

If you're unable to be an "ALEX" volunteer, but would like to help us, we'd love to have you join us in our efforts! This school and its wonderful teachers can seriously use our support. Please know that EVERY SINGLE PENNY (less the small Gofundme fee) received will go DIRECTLY to benefit the students at Donahoe Elementary School.

What will the funds be used for, you ask?
Classroom supplies, school supplies, art supplies, PE supplemental equipment, music supplemental supplies, daily HEALTHY snacks (for children who don't bring a snack from home.)

Take a look at this video. It will give you a look inside Donahoe and #TheALEXProject! We love our Donahoe people ... ALL of them. They are wonderful, smart and engaged students with some incredible teachers and administrators!  http://schools.henrico.k12.va.us/donahoe/2016/12/16/video-alex-project-books/

Donahoe Elementary demographics:
Approximately 512 students
80% minority
73% receive free or reduced lunch
Approximately 260 receive breakfast
ALL students are exceptional and capable and worthy!

As the founder of this program, I am incredibly proud and honored to know (and serve just a little) among the teachers and staff at Donahoe. They truly, truly love, respect, and care for the children in this school community. They teach them, but they often meet many other needs as well: emotional, parental, nutritional (snacks), physical (clothing). They are just incredible people.

And, the children ... oh, those sweet children. They deserve the world! Help us help them, if you can.

Thank you for reading and for your consideration.
