Surf for Life - Nicaragua, 2014

Donation protected
Update: Hi everyone! I am almost to my goal and the trip is coming up! Any help would mean the world to me! And also thanks again to everyone who has already helped me out!

Thanks for visiting my donation page! I am so excited to have the opportunity to help build classrooms for a primary and secondary school in Playa Gigante, Nicaragua.

Why am I doing this? I'm very fortunate that my Dad works for Salesforce.com, a company that really believes in philanthropy. He actually receives 6 paid days per year to volunteer for the cause of his choice. My Dad loves to surf and when he heard about Surf for Life, he realized what an amazing opportunity it would be for us to volunteer our time for this inspirational project and...catch a wave or two!

On August 9th, 2014, our family will be part of a Surf For Life team going to Playa Gigante, Nicaragua to build additions to the primary school. Playa Gigante is a quiet tropical fishing village on the southwest coast of Nicaragua that is experiencing rapid development due to an increase in tourism. This small town boasts a population of 500 and thrives on fishing and a growing tourism economy. The increase in population has out paced the size of the classroom to serve the local primary students. This project has resulted from series of teacher/parent meetings along with Project WOO in the identification of the construction of an additional classroom to best address the acknowledged need.

See http://www.surfforlife.org/projects/playa-gigante-nicaragua-14/for more details.

Our family fundraising goal for this project is $5,000. For every donation, Salesforce.com will DOUBLE all contributions dollar for dollar.  100% of all funds we raise will be going to this Surf for Life project, as we will be covering our own travel and lodging costs for the trip. After I receive your pledge, I will make the donation to Surf for Life on your behalf, and apply for the matching of funds through Salesforce.com.

Note:  These donation funds are technically a gift to me and not Surf for life.  If you would like to donate directly and receive a tax write off (Salesforce will not match these funds) click on this link and fill out the form: http://www.surfforlife.org/give/Doug-Steele/.

Thank you for helping me reach my goal...your generousity is appreciated by so many!

Audrey :-)

Surf For Life, a registered 501(c)3 non-profit organization, supports community projects in coastal communities throughout the developing world. By working with local stakeholders to address their most pressing self-identified needs, Surf For Life projects focus primarily on increasing access to education, health, and economic development. This process of building local capacity and community cohesion results in tangible projects such as the construction of schools, health clinics, and community centers.

Surf For Life projects are made a reality solely through the hard work and fundraising efforts of passionate partners and volunteers. Teams of 8-12 volunteers at a time work side-by-side with local community members on-site throughout the construction process. Your contribution will not only directly support the construction of these projects, but also build lasting local capacity and powerful cultural exchange.
