I first met Tami Schlosser when my daughter, Elizabeth, was just two months old. Elizabeth was having difficulty nursing, was losing weight, and was a very uncomfortable girl.
Knowing I needed professional help from a lactation consultant before things went from bad to worse, I called my insurance company to set an appointment. Not only did they not have a certified lactation consultant in their network, they also asked me to wait two months for an appointment with a family wellness practitioner.
I was desperate and began calling private lactation consultants. I made several calls and every consultant was booked out for days. I called Tami (who was at work at the time). She picked up immediately and listened to my story. I'll never forget her compassion and understanding. I told her, "it's to the point where my daughter doesn't even enjoy breastfeeding anymore". At that moment, Tami said, "Oh goodness. Poor baby! I can be there tonight after work if you can do it at 8:30." Tami's kindness and empathy struck me immediately. She is one of the most loving and generous people I have known.
Tami and John don't have a lot of material goods, but their hearts are rich in love. They are the type of couple that are the first in line to rescue those who need help, and right now THEY NEED YOUR HELP.
On Monday, March 28, John Dukie was admitted to St Rose Dominican hospital. He suffered 12 unexplained, violent seizures all under two hours. That's one every 15 minutes!
Over the next three days John continued to have seizures with a total of 22 grand mal seizures by Wednesday, March 30. All of his test results (CT, MRI, XRAY, blood and urine) came back clear. Doctors suspect that the seizures are a reaction to a new medication that John is on, but only time will tell.
In the meantime, Tami, who won't leave John's side, is unable to work. Tami and John are already financially stretched and every hour of work that they miss is a true financial strain on their family. Donations will be used to pay for basic necessities such as rent, utilities and food. This is not a family that has a cushion.
