Saving our Little Star!

HELP OUR STAR IN THE FIGHT FOR LIFE!

At the age of 2 1/2 years old Adela Jauregui was diagnosed with a brain tumor. I will never forget that morning -- the weird, awful feeling I felt in the pit of my stomach. Adela woke up that morning not feeling well. She was lathargic, but I continued with our normal routine. Got her up and dressed her. Off we went to grandma's house where she would take care of Adela. But that morning we never made it to grandma's. Adela began to feel sick and broke out in a severe sweat, along with an unusual cough. I called my husband, and we rushed her to St. Joseph's ER. Almost immediately, the ER doctor ordered a CT scan. That morning of May 2005, our lives changed forever with in hours. The ER room was filled with neurosurgeons and nurses. The doctor pulled us aside and said "we have bad news, we found a mass in your daughter's brain." The feeling we felt at that moment was indescribable.

Adela underwent a needle biopsy at CHOC, which pathology later concluded a grade 3 anaplastic astrocytoma. Weeks later Adela began Head Start chemotherapy at CHOC. These were intense rounds of chemo. She also received a bone marrow transplant in January of 2006.

The prognosis for this type of brain tumor was grim. We believe, because of the excellent care Adela has receive at CHOC, with the love, dedication and treatments of the oncologist, nurses and staff, Adela has been able to overcome the survival rate. It has been almost 7 years from the date Adela was diagnosed!

Adela is now 10 years old. Most of her life has been spent at the hospital clinics and doctor visits. Even though she lives with a brain tumor, Adela has been able to enjoy life. She enjoys reading chapter books, playing her acoustic guitar and going to school. Other hobbies include, drawing, collecting purses and lip gloss. Most of all, she enjoys being a big sister to Olivia!

Adela underwent brain surgery on Monday and we as her Music School would like to assist the family in raising money for all bills associated with her procedure.
