St. Joseph Nurses Joliet Solidarity Strike Fund

Throughout the pandemic, the nurses of St. Joe’s put their lives on the line to take care of the people of Joliet. They continue to work long hours and experience understaffing, underpayment and unsafe working conditions. Please donate to this fund to help support these workers as they take on Ascension, the multi-billion dollar corporation that bought St. Joe’s.

St. Joseph’s Medical Center has been a staple in the Joliet community for decades. It’s the hospital where countless Joliet residents were born and where they went to heal from everything from broken bones to heart disease.

St. Joe’s is in a fight for its life.

After decades of being a hospital that drew talent from around the area with its competitive pay and positive working environment, St. Joe’s was sold to a series of companies that have put profits over people. Ascension, its current owner, brings in over $25 billion in profits, much of that through chronic understaffing and “forgetting” to pay workers for overtime, PTO and sick leave.

Luckily, the nurses of St. Joe’s formed a union. This summer they are negotiating a new contract with Ascension and pushing the company to raise pay to be competitive with surrounding hospitals, agree to enforceable commitments to safe staffing and support for nurses just beginning their careers.
