In September I hope to travel to Bali, Indonesia to provide free haircutting training to people living in critical poverty.
Cartoon Cuts has partnered with Hair Aid, an Australian charity founded in 2013. In Indonesia, I will be part of a group that will teach a five-day haircutting course, enabling trainees to start their own micro-businesses.
Two years ago, I participated in a Hair Aid trip to Thailand. It was life-changing – for me, and for the students I taught.
One of my students now works in a barber shop in Chiang Rai called RebelHouse BarberShop (which you can check out on Facebook), I've been following his work on Instagram and he is extremely talented! I cannot believe that I was a part of that transformation. What a gift.
The students in my class ranged in age from 13-19. Together with two other hairstylists, we had 13 students. The most challenging skill I taught was graduating hair. It is a cutting technique used for stacked bobs, and it is not easy to teach!
The easiest skill to teach was probably how to hold the scissors. We taught that on the first day!
Thank you for your consideration in donating for my trip to help share my skills. I hope to raise $3600, which will cover my expenses, as well as the program fees. To give me a jumpstart, Cartoon Cuts will match every donation, up to the first $1200.
I promise to help change lives, and share pictures, stories and memories when I return from my trip!
