Six years ago I gave birth to my wonderful daughter, Sky, and my life suddenly had a powerful purpose, to be a loving mother. Unfortunately, we seperated. I gave him the benefit of a doubt and agreed to 50/50 timesharing but that has proven to be detremental to Sky's wellbeing as well as to the rest of my family. (I am now married and have, including Sky, three children, and they are my life.) As a result I have spent the last 3 years in a very heated, very expensive, custody battle, which is putting my whole family through turmoil.
Currently Sky splits every single week, spending half of it at my house and half of it at her dad's, which are two drastically different living situations. Sky comes home nervous to talk to me about any of her feelings, distant from her step-father, and claiming she doesn't have any "real" brothers. We are all concerned with her behaivor lately as a result of all that she has to go through on a regular basis.
Sky is a wonderfully bright and caring little girl and deserves to be in a happy and stable living environment. However, it is becoming harder and harder to fight the battle for Sky as the Lawyer fees, court costs, custody evaluator payments, therapist sessions, and misc. costs such as drug tests and psyc. evaluations pile up. My husband and I both have MFAs with professional jobs, yet we still struggle to support our families' daily needs. With this custody case my family and I have already spent about $9,000 in the last 2 years and I am currently $4,500 in debt to my lawyer. It is estimated that it will be at least into the summer before a real change in the 50/50 custody can possibly be reached and there are a long line of court dates before that.
Any help, no matter how small, would be greatly appreciated. If you have even the smallest amout to spare my family would be forever grateful and my daughter will have a better chance at growing up happy, knowing she is loved and cared for, and not torn between two very different worlds.
