On my 21st birthday, this past November, I made a decision that I was ready to embrace my past by finally making it a priority to forgive, rediscover and reunite with my father.

My mother met my father while working in central Mexico back in the early 90's. They married and I was born a few years later. We moved back to the states when I was only one. My father and I had a very deep connection as I was his first child. I looked and acted just like him. By the time I was five, my parents divorced and my father was forced to return to Mexico. Since then, I have not seen him and I have only been able to contact him via phone and email on a limited basis.

Not having a father around while growing up has left me with many questions. How does my dad laugh, walk, talk, express himself, etc.? How do his genes impact my life and the decisions that I have made and will continue to make? I have been battling with anxiety and depression and have come to realize that part of the remedy is to face my past and finally get to know the man I vaguely remember as a child.

From what I hear, I am a lot like my father. He's adventurous, fun-loving, philosophical, rebellious and charismatic. He has patiently waited for the day when I would be emotionally ready to forgive him for his mistakes and meet him as an adult. The day has finally arrived. I am no longer willing to just talk about this hypothetical reunion and now it's time to take action!

Right now I am living at home with my mother. I needed to take a semester off from college for mental health reasons and am currently taking on-line classes while seeing a therapist and getting my life back on track. I hope to make the trip to see my father this summer. All money received will go toward travel, food and lodging expenses. Any donation will be greatly appreciated!

My plan is to not only reunite with my father but to visit with my aging grandparents in Mexico as well. I need to learn about my roots before moving forward. In order to know where I am going, I must go back and find out where I have been.

With your help, this reunion (that has been 16 years in the making) will allow me to heal my anxieties, and help me understand who I am as I embark on my life as an adult

¡Muchas gracias! :)
