Michael Freeman from Venice, FL was a dear friend whom I have known for nearly 27 years. He was the kind of friend who would give you the shirt off his back if you needed one. He treated me to more meals and hosted more parties than I can remember. The beautiful boy with the dragoon tattoo was the life of the party and exuded confidence and no-holes-barred honesty. Although I moved away, we kept in touch.
The last 9 years had been hard on Michael as he struggled with addiction, unemployment, homelessness and health issues . But through it all, our friendship managed to survive the challenges that life threw at it.
Although Michael had not maintained regular contact over the last couple of years, I always had a tender place in my heart for this unique human being who was fighting to make it, despite physical, environmental and psychological challenges.
Michael no longer struggles with addiction or chronic illness. He no longer is dealing with the emotional stress and strain of life's hash reality. But he deserves one last moment of human courtesy: a dignified goodbye. That's why I am raising money to pay for a simple cremation, an urn and deposition of ashes. At this moment, the state will dispose of the body unless we help fund his cremation. I can't let that happen.
