Saint Dominic’s Academy is a Montessori Children’s House located in Honesdale, Pennsylvania at the site of the former Honesdale Catholic School. It has been open for four years and in the beginning of our second year we began our Montessori Primary Children's House that has been highly successful. Our school is now expanding to meet demand and offer our parents continuing education opportunities for their children.
Why is there so much demand? Because we Teach the Child, Not the Test. We are focused on the individual needs of each student. Our expansion will give our parents the opportunity to continue their children's education with an Elementary Montessori Program.
More to the point, the mission of Saint Dominic’s Academy is to provide a comprehensive education for our children in body, mind and spirit, based on the precepts and teachings of the Catholic Church and established in accordance with all of the applicable regulations of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania. While working in cooperation with families, our program implements the teaching and principles of Dr. Maria Montessori, providing an environment that stimulates the child’s natural curiosity and prepares him/her to become an independent, self-reliant and compassionate human being.
Our expansion program is underway for 2015-2016 and we have added the Elementary Program for children ages 6-9. This is a leap of faith for us and we need your help along with that of Our Lord. We operate on a shoestring budget, receive no funds from our Diocese (although we have its blessing) and need your help.
You can provide that help by donating to our Expansion Fund. We need everything from supplies to furniture to renovations and we could use help to assure that our new, additional staff salary requirements can be met. It’s going to take an estimated $25,000 of money we don’t currently have to facilitate the Elementary Program initiative and, frankly, we need to start an Endowment Fund that will help with future years, so we’re hoping to raise $50,000 this year, of which half each will go to each fund.
You can support our “Teach the Child, Not the Test” Catholic Montessori education program at St. Dominic’s Academy with whatever you can afford. No amount is too small! We offer the following suggestions, though, for those who can afford to donate more:
