39 Serenity Place, an addiction/alcoholism recovery clubhouse serving Massena, New York, and surrounding communities, has outgrown its current location. Prior to the COVID pandemic, our existing facility’s design limited our ability to provide vital recovery services. Since the start of the pandemic, we have been unable to consistently provide vital recovery services because of those design issues (small rooms). Additionally, the facility is not handicap accessible. We are currently working to secure a larger location that would allow us to expand our addiction/alcoholism recovery services, address COVID concerns and remain open to providing healing for those in recovery, including those with limited mobility.
39 Serenity Place was created Sept. 2, 2013, by 11 people in recovery from alcoholism and/or addiction who believed having a safe environment to gather was essential for recovering addicts and alcoholics. 39 Serenity place exists to offer services, support, and a safe environment to our membership and local community members as they work to achieve and maintain recovery from alcohol and drug addiction. The clubhouse is run entirely by volunteers and is supported entirely through donations.
In addition to offering a safe and supportive gathering place, 39 Serenity Place hosts twelve-step meetings (Alcoholics Anonymous, Narcotics Anonymous, Al-Anon, men’s and women’s meetings, and veterans’ meetings). We host Sunday dinners after Sunday meetings, day trips, camping trips, and large Thanksgiving, Christmas, New Year’s, and Easter dinners so no one has to be alone on the holidays. There is always food in the fridge, cards games being played, someone to talk to, people making crafts… We also offer members and the community a little store to help people get back on their feet. The goal is to help people learn to live in sobriety and to provide a safe and supportive environment as they do so.
Some individuals come to our clubhouse struggling to stay “clean” because they have trouble avoiding others using drugs and/or alcohol. For some, it is their immediate family that is using, and the people/situations can’t be avoided. Our clubhouse provides members a place to go to find support and feel safe.
While our main purpose is aiding individuals in achieving and maintaining sobriety, 39 Serenity Place also organizes programs to educate the community on addiction.
You may have a relative or friend suffering from this deadly disease. You may be in recovery yourself. Please consider assisting us in our mission to help addicts find recovery. A donation of any amount will be an immense help. To open a new facility, we need $100,000. The building costs $75,000, and $25,00 is for renovation and furnishing. Your support is critical for us to attain success.
