WHERE DOES “SAVE THE CHILDREN” WORK AND WHY?

Africa: Children and their families across Africa have already been struggling through a decade of climate shocks and regular food crises. Now, COVID-19 is putting immense pressure on Africa’s already fragile and overwhelmed health care system. As the pandemic continues to spread, countries across the continent already grappling with hunger and hit by other crises, including the climate crisis in the Horn of Africa, remain at risk. Through emergency relief, health and nutrition, education and protection programs, Save the Children is working to transform the lives of Africa's children.

Asia and the Middle East: Save the Children is on the ground in countries across Asia and the Middle East helping children grow up healthy, educated and safe – every day and in times of crisis. They are there in the region’s conflict zones, leading the world in protecting children from the physical and emotional wounds of war. Refugee children are getting back to learning sooner because Save The Children led the advocacy effort to ensure children return to learning within 30 days of being displaced.

Europe: In Europe, Save The Children is providing health and nutrition, education and protection services, including psychosocial help, to child refugees and their families. Their programs focus on helping children and communities cope and build readiness and resilience in the face of crisis. 

North America: From the United States to Nicaragua, Save the Children is working to protect the most vulnerable children. They are the leading national response agency focused on the unique needs of children in transit shelters at the U.S. southern border. They're also continuing to address the root causes of migration with longstanding programs in Latin America.

South America: Before the coronavirus outbreak, Venezuela already had the highest inflation rate in the world, with chronic shortages of food and medicine. Displacement from the country is among the highest in the world — second only to Syria. Virtually no country in the region has been left untouched by this crisis. Save The Children's education, health, livelihoods and nutrition programs focus on helping every child survive and grow up healthy so they can thrive.
