Ryan Meyer Eagle Scout project

Donation protected
Hi everyone,

My name is Ryan Meyer and I’m a proud member of Boy Scout Troop 228 in Santa Clarita, CA.   I joined Scouts in the first grade as a Tiger Cub Scout and because I enjoyed scouts so much, I have stayed in the program for ten years. I have achieved many great awards and worked through all the ranks of Scouts and am now working on the highest honor in Scouts - the Eagle Rank.  My final requirement to earn this honored rank is to do an Eagle Service Project.  The project supports the mission of the Boy Scouts which is to prepare young people to make ethical and moral choices over their lifetimes. This project will also help me demonstrate my leadership abilities and show my dedication to my community.  An Eagle service project requires me to do a lot of things like recruit volunteers, acquire materials, and act as the foreman of the project. It is an experience that I know will help me learn skills that I can use in my future.

For my project, I’ve decided to give back to my Church and parish, Our Lady of Perpetual Help in Newhall, CA,  and refurbish the garage in the courtyard area by the church.   This garage is the center of activity after all masses on the weekends.

There are about 30-40 different ministries that store their supplies in the garage and then set up tables after masses for Welcome events, fundraising, event sign-ups, or simply spreading their message.   Currently, the garage is very unorganized, and in addition to being cluttered and difficult to work in, it’s an eyesore to everyone.

It's so cluttered, it's hard to find things and walk around.

There's currently cabinets stacked in front of cabinets!

I need to raise enough funds to:
-Clean, patch, and paint the walls
-Degrease, clean, and paint the floor
-Build and hang 3 large lockable cabinets
-Construct 2 heavy-duty steel storage shelving units
-Construct a cart to store folding tables
-Build and install a coffee/drink service station

In addition to purchasing these materials, I also need to acquire the paint, paint supplies, cleaners, hardware, lumber, and water and food for a crew of 15 for the two-day project.

I’ve prepared a budget and although I’ve already received donations of a few things, I still need to raise the money to complete the project. I’ve been working with the administrators at the parish using a 3D sketchup program and although the floorplan is constantly changing, the amount of $1,900 has been fairly consistent.   Fundraising is part of the experience of doing an Eagle project.  In addition to contacting the ministries that use the garage for donations, I’m reaching out to my family and friends.  If you are willing and able to donate to my project, I would greatly appreciate it.  Any amount would help me complete my project and ultimately help me to earn my Eagle Rank in Scouting.    If I have left over funds, I will donate that to the church.

I hope to do my project in mid August.    If you need to contact me for additional information, volunteering interest, or anything else, please contact through my profile.  I hope you are interested in the cause and can help!   Thank you in advance for your support!
