Rougon Elementary's DC Trip

Donation protected
My name is Ms. Kate and I am currently a teacher at Rougon Elementary School in Pointe Coupee Parish, Louisiana. Before moving to Louisiana in 2012, I attended American University in Washington, D.C. I grew so much as an individual while living in our nation's capital. I made friends from all over our country, ate a variety of foods from around the world and explored hundreds of museum exhibits. Washington, D.C. is a hub of knowledge, filled with activists, politicians and go-getters ready to inspire the people around them.

My love for Washington, D.C. has not faded since moving to Louisiana. It is actually the driving force behind this fundraiser. I am currently planning a trip for fourteen 7th and 8th grade students to tour Washington, D.C. during our Spring Break. I want these Rougon students to see and experience all Washington, D.C. has to offer. During our trip we will tour two universities (American University and Howard University), visit several Smithsonian musuems, tour the Capital, have a picnic on the National Mall and our list goes on and on. Our students will fly to Washington D.C. and, for the majority of the students, this is their first time on a plane! This trip means so much to me because it will allow our Rougon students to step outside of their Louisiana bubble and experience a whole different region of our country. Plus, I cannot wait to share my love for Washington, D.C. with these students.

The $2,400 would cover the cost of the whole trip (meals, hotel, flights, etc) for two students. I am trying very hard to allow all 14 students to go on this trip for free. The students who are attending are A/B Honor Roll students. Each student had to fill out an application to attend and one student (pictured above) was selected to attend because she won the annual science fair. Many of the students wrote about how a trip to Washington, D.C. could change the trajectory of their life. They wrote about how one day they might want to live there or attend college there. All of the fourteen students attending deserve to go on this trip, especially at no cost. They are hardworking, dedicated students who want to learn about the world around them.

Please consider donating--even if it's only $5 or $10! Our students truly deserve this trip!!
