Robert Boutin's Medical Fund
Beschermde donatie
Picture this, a beautiful Spring day, a 2015 Harley Davidson motorcycle and it’s yours to ride. That was the start of Robert's morning on May 25, 2016. And this is when the saying, "when good times go bad," becomes a reality for him. Robert left home to go to work and at approximately 8:00 am while he was riding on Long Island Avenue at its intersection with S. 19th Street - his life was changed forever. A car made a u-turn striking him and then fled the scene, leaving Robert on the ground with multiple injuries which include: a fractured pelvis, a fractured left wrist, a fractured clavicle, a fractured rib, a fractured eye orbital floor, a fractured nose, along with several fractured teeth. Luckily for him there was a car traveling behind him that had stopped and called 911. Robert was transported to Good Samaritan Hospital where he was placed in a medically induced coma for eight (8) days, during which he underwent two surgeries, one to repair his wrist and the other to reconstruct his face. After fifteen (15) days he was transported to Mercy Medical Center for rehabilitation. There he spent nine (9) days undergoing intense physical, occupational and speech therapies. Robert was able to come home on June 18, 2016, however he has been confined to a wheelchair. Robert will remain in a wheelchair until his pelvis heals which may be approximately another eight weeks.
For those who do not know Robert, he is a U.S. Army Infantry Combat Veteran that served a tour in Afghanistan and was able to return home virtually injury free. It is ironic that this accident was caused by a person whom he risked his life to protect. Robert had just started a new job in February, 2016 and was able to provide health insurance for himself and his wife who has her own health problems. Obviously, since he has not been able to work due to this accident, his health insurance was terminated. Unfortunately, his wife had to leave her job in order to care for him at home since he is unable to care for himself. Luckily, his employer is sympathetic to his current situation and even though he does not qualify for the Family Medical Leave Act, they have agreed to hold a position for him once he is able to go back to work.
As we all know, bills do not go away when life events, either good or bad, happen. With that in mind, Robert is now one month without his and his wife's paychecks and his funds are dwindling fast. At this time, we are unsure how long he will be out of work due to the long road of recovery he has ahead of him. To date, medical bills have arrived almost daily as he still needs intense medical treatment. Robert is not the type of person to ask, but I know that any donation would be greatly appreciated by him.
