Hello Everyone,
Allow me to introduce myself. My name is Mike Patay, I will be 39 years of age this year. I am a single father with full and sole custody of my 13 year old son Curtis. He is a wonderful kid with a kind and loving heart! can brighten anyones day with his sincere smile and empathetic loving heart. Curtis and I have lived alone together since he was 4 years old, and up until about 6 months ago. We are both devastated with the situation but unfortunately I have little choice in the matter. This is a temporary solution, And we both look forward to being together again. Our nightmare started about a year and a half ago. At that time Curtis and I were doing quite well, healthy, happy, and active. I was working full time and successfully moving up in my company, making a decent living. After work Curtis and I would throw the football or baseball around if we weren't hiking or biking. Curtis was in swimming lessons, played soccer and was often at the skate park, practicing his skateboarding. Our dog would always be with us as she loved chasing the ball or any random stick. Life was good. I started to notice Curtis wasn't concentrating very well at school or at home, and his memory seemed to be slipping. He had a small cough that wouldn't go away. I took Curtis to the Dr. and was told he has a persistent cold that will go away. The Dr. said Curtis is a boy and sometimes they don't focus as well as we think they should. over the next few months I had taken Curtis to the Dr. 5 of 6 times for various symptoms including: Head pain, Leg and muscle pain, Ear aches, no motivation. poor blood circulation,Each visit we walked away with more questions then answers. We had no idea what was going on. The Dr. gave us a prescription for orthopedics for his flat feet, that must be causing the pain in his legs. I seemed to have many of the same symptoms, that I contributed to old age. Curtis started to loose his hair and this worried me to the max! I took Curtis straight to the Dr. and we were told that Curtis had alopecia... It wasn't until I started to loose my hair that I realized there must be something in our townhouse that is causing all these symptoms. They cant be that common for both of us to randomly get alopecia and have all these head pains and body pain along with the mental fog and concentration problems....Sure enough There was Black Mould that was remediated/Removed. I was told there was no mould in my unit, that they were only remediating my unit for insurance purposes, "all units were to be done to get the cheaper rate". Well I started to question whether the Landlord/Property manager was being truthful on the mould.I continued to ask about the mould levels found and the type that was found, and also what chemicals were used to remove the mold as my son and I were continuing to become more and more ill as each day passed. She once told me that she didn't need to tell me what was found. Well we were getting so sick I had taken Curtis out of the house to stay with his mother. As much as it pains me to have Curtis stay somewhere else, its a safe environment while I get to the bottom of what is going on. When I took Curtis to the Dr. explaining what I had found out, the Dr. really didn't believe me that mould could be so dangerous and causing all these symptoms.(even with me sitting in the Dr. office beside Curtis showing the Dr. that I am going bald, and having all the same symptoms as my son Curtis) So I showed the Dr. some research and studies to prove mould can do what it is doing to both Curtis
and I! And I demanded the proper tests to be done! The Dr. ordered blood tests, urine sample and a saliva Test as well as sent us to a dermatologist. By this time Curtis had only about 7 hairs left on his entire body! The Dermatologist said there was nothing he could do that my son had alopecia-universallis (which means alopecia all over his body), and that it wouldn't be returning! Curtis broke down again and continued to sob in my arms. being 13 years old and loosing all hair is pretty traumatic. Well again I demanded the Dr. to do a hair follicle test so we could see the mould in his system. That frustrated the Dr. As he figured it was a waste of time. Well thank God it was done as it is the test that shows the mould and from there able to determined the proper medicine for Curtis. Curtis and I decided life could be much worse, at least we are alive and not diagnosed with something life threatening. Although if left untreated we would most likely die from this, but that would take many years.... Meanwhile my landlord was still giving me the run around. I asked her with all honesty and sincerity and while scarred and hurting, Please tell me what type of mould was found as the Dr. requires it to give us the proper treatment as certain types of mould require special treatment? She responded to me with, "You can rule mould out, there was no mould found in your unit" So as i knew she was lying I emailed her right away and copied the local legal clinic and her boss and a few other local people that may influence her to respond and with the truth. I asked for the type and levels of mould found and all other relevant information regarding the mould and the removal of it..... This still didn't entice her to be honest as she responded 7 days later with "I am still gathering, and will get back to you" Well two days later she had a lawyer respond to me stating there was mould found but it was a small amount and that it was probably my own fault from having dirty laundry on the floor in front of the washer. and that it was removed and new drywall was replaced. There was no new drywall installed, I was just happy to see the first step that she admitted there was mould, I knew it wasn't my fault as they remediated all 45 plus units in my complex.... I have been off work by this time and on government assistance as I need to prove the mould type to get the proper treatment. This lady continued to make our lives a living hell! I believe she just wanted to make me go away, and would do whatever it took/ takes to make me leave. She gave me notice that my backyard fence was illegal and that she would be taking it down, It had been up for at least the past two tenants before me, and I had been there for over two years at this point... she knew it would make my life more difficult as I have a dog that uses the yard. If that wasn't bad enough she then hired a company to come and remove all my stuff from my backyard, Patio table and chairs, my bike, my dog crate, tools gone! Least of my worries... So because I have had Curtis staying with his mother and I don't stay in the house much at all, this lady has called to tell the government assistance that i am defrauding the system and should be not allowed to be collecting any assistance. I was called in to the office and asked questions about my situation so I told the truth and stated that my house has caused us many health issues and we are extremely suffering and that I couldn't keep Curtis there so he is with his mother and I avoiding the house like the plague as it is toxic! Well In the meeting The lady understood what i did and told me that family and health comes first! That she would do whatever she could to help me, I had tears as I left that office thinking finally I am getting some help! well the next day January 28th 2016 I was informed I was cut off due to Curtis not living with me and that I wasn't using my place as a primary residence. I was blown away, So now I have absolutely no money for rent, food, any bills, or most importantly the medication prescribed for my son and I! needless to say at this point I am behind in all my bills I no longer have a phone, cellphone or land line. when I emailed the landlord to ask for a rent adjustment as I live in a geared to income townhouse, and my income has changed, she asked me to just leave. she said just write up a letter stating that I will vacate the premises and hand over the keys... I will not be doing this as it is my primary residence and all my things are in that house, I asked for a transfer some time ago with no avail. I now need to see lawyer to fight to have her or whoever is accountable to be accountable and hopefully pay to have our health returned. I also would love to have her pay for us to live together again while they actually remove the mould or find us a new place to live. This situation has been a complete nightmare for my son and I. I have emailed the mayor of my city the Minister of Health and my neighborhood councilor along with a few other government offices and lawyers. I need to meet my goal to pay for our medical expenses and to be able to eat and pay my bills my rent as I cant be homeless. I have to travel to see my son as he is residing in a near by city (20 Min's away) with his mother there is a bus that will take me there. I will be seeing a lawyer next week to see if they can help me in this matter.
I believed that our situation would get better sooner rather then later, as it turns out I was wrong. It has continued to get worse and worse, not only are my son and I super sick, we are now away from each other, and miss each other like crazy! I no longer have an income and am now basically homeless. I don't believe it can now get any worse from here.
I have knocked on all doors available and made all the noise I can, now I am here asking you to please help us financially. so we can get healthy and back together as the family we are. :)
There are many people that need help so if you can give me 1, 2, or even 5 dollars it all adds up and we are in desperate need. We are completely grateful for whatever you can give. If you are not compelled to donate to us, I understand as there are many causes and only so much money, I would just ask that if you have a higher power to please pray that my son Curtis, myself and our dog are together again healthy happy and active members of our community.
