As most of you know, we are pharmacy students at the University of Florida. Each of us have different reasons why we are extremely passionate about pediatric cancer awareness and research, but one thing we all have in common is the same goal: to raise a voice and make a difference for the children who are fighting for their lives every day.
While school takes up a majority of our time, we wanted to do our part in supporting this cause to one day finding a cure to pediatric cancer by initiating a small fundraiser at our college of pharmacy across our various satellite campuses. There was no better time to start than now, as September is Childhood Cancer Awareness Month!
As members of the American Pharmacist Association for Student Pharmacists we paired up with a local non-profit organization called the Pediatric Cancer Foundation. All proceeds will go directly to the foundation in efforts and hopes of some day finding a cure to childhood cancer. The Pediatric Cancer Foundation works directly with children at various events throughout the year, puts on large fundraising events to raise money for the cure, and partners with 15 hospitals nationwide as a part of their collaborative research initiative, the Sunshine Project. While the fundraiser originated as a small one--titled "Pennies for Peds," where students could bring their spare change while already on campus for class-- it quickly grew! With the help of the generous Millian Family, who we know share this same passion for fighting cancer, together with their business, JK Cancer Fund Inc and Millian-Aire Enterprise will partner to match the donation we raise up to $5,000!!!! THAT’S RIGHT-FIVE THOUSAND DOLLARS!
So as you can see, we are eager to reach this goal through efforts both on and off campus--which is why we are reaching out to you!
Please note that no donation is too small, even $1 can help us reach our goal. We thank you for taking the time to read this and hope that you will join us in our efforts to one day finding a cure to childhood cancer.
