Parinaam Foundation

On 24th March, I will be competing in my first ever triathlon. I am raising money for Parinaam Foundation, a fantastic charity in Bangalore, India, which works with the urban poor across India. Their programmes range from financial literacy for the ultra-poor (helping them to understand savings, debt, and the importance of regular work) through to medical and educational support for children and adults.
After visiting Parinaam last year, Bob and I made an 11-year commitment to pay school fees for two bright 7-year old slum girls to get a good education. Your sponsorship will go towards additional programmes for these girls and others in Parinaam's urban ultra-poor catchment - people who earn less than a dollar a day. One exceptionally popular and important programme is the 5-week summer camp. The programme is fun and engaging for the kids, but, most importantly, enables their mothers to hold down a full time job rather than undertaking poorly paid casual labour during the school year and staying home in the summer. The 5-week programme costs £12 per child and Parinaam are targetting 250 kids this year - so £3,000 would enable 250 mothers to stay in formal employment, significantly improving these families' chances of moving out of the margins. I am really excited about this and am hoping to go out and visit our girls during the summer camp this year!
I have never been moved before to raise money for any cause before - but I have been so impressed with Parinaam and the big difference it has made for the people it works with. If the cause itself doesn't move you to sponsor me, I promise photos of me stumbling in a completely undignified way towards the finish line!
