Niki and D and IVF Makes Three

They met in the jungles of Indonesia. Both focused on the conservation and protection of a critically endangered monkey. Just friends at first, a series of intense stressors and life changing situations brought them closer. Now, they cannot imagine life without each other.

Before even deciding to marry, Niki and Diswal wanted to have children together. Sadly, the month after their wedding, Diswal was diagnosed with non-obstructive Azoospermia. It was a devastating blow. But true to their nature, they refused to give up. Niki used her PhD earned research skills to find the best doctors, supplements, and treatment plans, and Diswal agreed to undergo an invasive Micro-TESE. The surgery was a resounding success! Likely due in part to Diswal's daily supplement cocktail created by Niki, the surgeon found hundreds of healthy sperm. Unfortunately, sperm retrieved via Micro-TESE require IVF to become babies. The final step is for them to attempt IVF.
But, the costs of IVF are astronomical and not a single bit is covered by insurance. You all know what Niki does best.... grant writing. She wrote 11 proposals in the span of 6 months all while working a full time job and trying to analyze data for her dissertation. Their story resonated with a few charities! The generosity of AGC Scholarship & The Fertility Foundation of Texas puts them one step closer to ensuring that Niki’s biological father will be able to meet their child before his late stage Parkinson’s advances too far. Niki has also worked with their reproductive endocrinologist to give them the best deals possible on all of the procedures.

IVF Clinical Fee - $1,995
IVF Lab Fee -$5,970
Embryo Cryopreservation - $775
Intercytoplasmic Sperm Injection - $1,800
Additional IVF Medication to extend stimulation - $250
5th Ultrasound because of stimulation extension $250
Hysteroscopy # 2 - $650
Fresh Transfer Cancelled - Frozen transfer cost $2500
Additional Progesterone to sustain pregnancy $526
4 Ultrasounds Post-Implantation - $680
TOTAL = $23,346
They were awarded $5,000 from AGC, $5,000 from TFF. This leaves them with a grand total of $13,346 left to pay out of pocket. They are only asking for $10,966. With Diswal still lacking stable income, this is a scary situation. And while he will be in a better position financially in about two years, they cannot wait that long for this process to begin.
Niki could not bring herself to ask her loved ones for money and Diswal's family back home in Indonesia have none to contribute. I created this GoFundMe to help my daughter and son-in-law achieve a miracle. Any donation, in any amount, would mean the world to them both. Directly this translates into ‘Raft upstream, swim to shore’, but the beautiful meaning behind it says ‘Bear pain first, happiness follows’. This proverb reminds us that hardship and heartache are simply a part of life. We push through our pain because we know there is happiness, a family, in our future.”
June 6th, 2018; Update - 20 week Ultrasound with a heathy baby!!! Now we need to pay off IVF so we can start paying off the birth!
November 29, 2017: Update Day 8 IVF Stimulation (7 days of actual injections)
Look at all those follicles!!! 13 on each side and most of them shoudl make it to maturity!

Feb 2nd Update! Here are our two blastocysts thawing. The second picture was taken 10 minutes later - you can see how much they expanded. And then a picture of us right after transfer with our ultrasound where our embryos appear as a line of light. <3
