My friends Sue and George
opened their restaurant in Rincon, Puerto Rico on Sept 15th. On Sept 20th Maria devastated the beautiful Island of Puerto Rico.
George explains...
"our restaurant did ok, the worst that happened is we lost a few appliances a freezer and our entire first food order. The generator for the building was destroyed.
We agreed to run this campaign because our employees are in severe need of help.
Our main cook (Puerto Rican native) lost his house his car and ALL his possessions, the roof went flying off in the storm destroying everything he owns.
Our manager, left his apt and job of 7 years in New York and moved his entire life to Rincon in August. He is still there with no electricity, no water and no real phone service.(like everyone else in Puerto Rico). He has been helping his new neighbors clean up their homes and streets, cutting down branches and helping wherever and how ever he can. Our 2 main bartenders have been left without income. They depend on us opening to get by. The latest reports say not to expect electricity for months. We have been trying to get a generator and once we do our manager insists that he will open and at least add one more place for people to meet and take their minds off this disastrous situation.
Rincon is rebuilding slowly.
We encourage all our friends and family to travel to Puerto Rico once things get back to normal and support all local businesses.
All monies from this campaign will go to our staff and to reopen the restaurant. We don’t expect much business for the coming months so all monies will go for salaries and supplies.
